The primary responsibilities of the Patient Services Lead are ownership and operational leadership of the case management process and systems including managing the internal Patient Access Specialists (PAS) team for Spark’s gene therapy products.  The incumbent is responsible for providing day-to-day instructions to team members on job responsibilities.  This includes hiring, training, managing, and developing the patient specialists.

Working with the Patient Services Leader, the incumbent is responsible for developing   PAS team and building the appropriate systems to support Spark’c comprehensive patient services offering.  .   The Patient Services Leaderwill monitor the patient journey and provide feedback to internal Spark team members involved in the process.

The role is expected to assist in creating the Spark Patient Services Brand and to coordinate with Marketing, Commercial Operations, Market Access, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance regarding the management of the patient services operation.  

  • Create a state of the art case management system to support genetic testing and future potential reimbursement and logistical processes
  • Ensure all operational requirements are met
  • Create SOP’s for Patient Access Specialist Team
  • Monitor internal processes from a compliance perspective
  • Communicate trends and needs to internal stakeholders
  • Assist in creating Spark Patient Services Branding
  • Ensures open communication with program support.
  • Strong understanding of internal patient process flow and challenging insurance issues.
  • Participates in budget planning.
  • Accountable for program quality and compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Designs project task plan and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyzes reports for trends and gives recommendations.
  • Analyzes progress of tactical issues.
  • Hire, train, manage and develop Patient Access Specialists to support internal process including:
  • Designing programs which promote high motivation among team members.
  • Conducting performance reviews and rewards positive behavior.
  • Coaching, counseling and setting goals for specialists to help develop them for career progression.
  • Participating in the developing internal org structure and hiring process
  • Provides feedback up and down the organization (positive and constructive)
  • Translates and oversees organizational strategies for assigned goals.
  • Assists specialists in solving challenging patient issues.
  • Assist in creating Spark Patient Services branding
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on product and all Spark services
  • Develops activities with the goal of achieving greater openness and understanding of Spark therapies and processes
  • Educate families on all Spark patient services programs and resources available.
  • Proactively identifies program issues and proposes ways in which to address their concerns.

  • Experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of intricacies of building case management systems in rare disease.
  • Must be familiar with relevant legal and regulatory environment in biotech industry
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Effective at managing team members responsible for complex individualized cases
  • Strong EQ skills

  • BS required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5-8 years total business experience in the healthcare or biotech industry, with at least 3+ years experience in case management in rare disease including experience building rare disease case management system.
  • Minimum 2+ years in a Supervisory or Lead role strongly preferred.
  • A successful track record in building case management processes and patient care required
  • Experience in supporting rare biologic therapy administered by a designated health care provider in a designated institution
  • Experience leading cross functionally and influencing without authority
  • Strong communication skills
